What This Means for You

Licensed 503A Compounding Pharmacy

Under Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, American Wellness Pharmacy operates as a patient-specific compounding pharmacy. This means every medication we produce is compounded for an identified individual patient based on a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider.

503A pharmacies are subject to state pharmacy board oversight, unlike 503B outsourcing facilities which operate under direct FDA oversight for bulk production. Our 503A status means stricter patient protections and a true one-on-one compounding relationship.

503A vs 503B: 503B facilities manufacture medications in bulk without patient-specific prescriptions. 503A pharmacies like AWP only compound for a specific, identified patient upon receipt of a valid prescription — a higher standard of personalized care.

Regulatory Framework

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

AWP operates under a multi-layered compliance framework spanning federal law, state pharmacy board regulations, and industry best practices.

FDA Regulations — Section 503A FDCA
All compounding activities comply with Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. This governs which drugs may be compounded, prescription requirements, and ingredient sourcing from FDA-registered suppliers.

NABP Compliance
American Wellness Pharmacy follows National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) standards for non-resident pharmacy practices, including patient safety protocols and interstate shipping compliance.

USP <795> Non-Sterile Compounding
Our non-sterile compounding (capsules, creams, troches, topicals) follows USP Chapter 795 guidelines — covering personnel training, facility standards, beyond-use dating, and quality control.

USP <797> Sterile Compounding
All injectable and sterile preparations are produced in an ISO-classified cleanroom environment following USP Chapter 797 — including environmental monitoring, sterility testing, and strict beyond-use dating protocols.

DEA Registration — Controlled Substances
AWP holds current DEA registration for handling and compounding controlled substances, including testosterone and other Schedule III medications. All controlled substance handling follows DEA 21 CFR requirements.

Nevada State Board of Pharmacy Oversight
As our home-state licensing authority, the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy has jurisdiction over AWP’s compounding practices, pharmacist licensure, and facility standards. We maintain full compliance with all Nevada pharmacy statutes and regulations.

Quality Standards

Our Commitment to Quality

Licensing is the floor, not the ceiling. Here’s how AWP goes beyond minimum requirements.

ISO-Classified Cleanroom

Sterile compounding is performed in an ISO-classified cleanroom with continuous environmental monitoring and particle counts to ensure contamination-free preparation.

Third-Party Batch Testing

We partner with accredited independent testing laboratories to verify potency, sterility, and identity of selected compounded preparations — beyond what regulations require.

Pharmaceutical-Grade Ingredients

All active pharmaceutical ingredients are sourced exclusively from FDA-registered suppliers with certificates of analysis. We are a PCCA member for access to the highest-purity bulk ingredients available.
